Lookalikes

Referees, don't you just love them, although they seem to hate us!!!!!

Monday 23rd June 2003

Goteborgs SIF 4 Elisedal 1

Another disappointing result for the 'Dal and yet again we say that the scoreline does not reflect what actually happened in the game.

The game started off very well in fact, with the visitors having to slug it out in their own half for the first 20 to 25 minutes or so. But, slug it out they did and managed to keep the scoreline at 0-0. This was down to some stern defending and a strong performance between the sticks by goalkeeper, Graham. And surprisingly, maybe, Elisedal managed to take the lead in the 25 minute in what was possibly their first attack. Ian battled well in the box after a wonderful corner from Andreas and the ball drop to Magnus who headed over the oncoming 'keeper. Shortly after it could have been 2, following some good work by Orjan. He fed the ball through to Conny, but he could only manage to drag the ball across the face of the goal.

After that, things started to get a little out of hand. The referee booked Billy for an awkward challenge but only booked the opposition player even though he was guilty of retaliation! This was only the beginning and the referee started to lean towards the league leaders, giving some dubious free-kicks. Directly after half-time in fact, he awarded a free just outside the box for mmmmm, well, we do not really know what for. From the resulting kick, the ball somehow found the back of the net from a deflection. Cruel justice. Just 5 or so minutes later, the visitors found themselves 2-1 down. A break down the left saw the ball come across goal only to be directed into the back of the net by the helpless foot of Ian. Cruel Justice.

Two late goals then made the scoreline look very flattering and to make matters worse, Billy received his second yellow card for dissent and got his marching orders for the second time this term. Also booked were Lenny, Toni, Ian and Andy.

Elisedal 0 Goteborgs SIF 1

Another suberb performance from the 'Dal, only to end up losing to a solitary goal on the night. The only thing missing from the performance was a goal or two on the scoresheet for the home side.

The game started with Elisedal looking a little shaky all over the field, but after 10 minutes or so, they managed to settle into a rythem. However, despite a good first half there was no goals forthcoming. Elisedals cause was not helped by some quite dubious refereeing, most notably when Conny was pushed into the advertising hoarding only for a throw-in to be given to the visitors!

The second period started quite brightly and chances started to come. However, as has been the case over the past 4 games, we have struggled to find the back of the net. This was again punished as the visitors took a quick throw-in after 20 minutes. The defence was caught flat-footed and the visitors frontman toe-poked them into the lead. A slight injustice and the only bad mark to a somewhat excellant display.

Next Monday sees the return. Can the 'Dal turn it around?

Hogaborg 1 Elsiedal 1

The eagerly awaited re-fixed match finally took place on friday 13th. And it certainly was unlucky for the 'Dal as they only came away with a draw. It was surely the best performance of a somewhat sparatic season so far. The visitors were sharper out of the blocks and it wasn't long before the chances started to come, with both Orjan and Conny looking menacing in attack. However, it wasn't until Thomas came into the action that the first real chance came. The substitute took on 2 or 3 defenders before putting an inviting ball across the six yard line. Unfortunately, there was no green shirt there to meet it.

After the break, it was a similar story, with chance after chance coming the visitors way. However, the finishing touch could not be applied and this was to be punished with 10 minutes remaining. Following a mix up in defence, the ball found it's way into net past the hapless Graham who had been having a wonderful game up to that. It was a big blow but somehow the boys picked themselves and found the net with a beautifully struck volley from Orjan from fully 25 yards out. Deservedly not beaten but maybe unfortunate not to get three points from this well tempered and competetive game.

BK Skottfint 6 Elisedal 0

A poor opening 1/2 hour display by the visitors resulted in Skottfint taking a 6 goal advantage into the half time break. Goals on 4, 6, 21, 24 (dodgy penalty decision), 30 and 37 from the home side meant that they could take the foot of the gas a little. However, a different Elisedal team emerged in the second half to give indication that the scoreline maybe didn't do much justice to them. Some tactical changes saw Orjan move to the centre of defence to cover for Chris who had earlier received his second yellow card, albeit a very harsh decision. Andy came on into the midfield to try tighten things up there and Thomas and Tony spearhead a 2 man attack to try retrieve a little of the goal difference. However, it wasn't to be, but the visitors did manage to prevent the home side from scoring further. Matters were not helped much mid-way through the second half though, when Orjan saw red for some 'afters' according to the young referee. Disappointing result, but a lot of positives from the second half performnce, why could we not play that way earlier on??????

Elisedal 2 Bjurslatts 0

A good solid performance from the boys in green to claim the second victroy of the campaign and put us in a position in the league that our form deserves. From the off, it looked like the 3 points would be in the bag by the end of the night. Tony Wearing started very well and quite a few chances broke to him early on. However, it wasn't until the 23rd minute that the deadlock was finally broken and it was that man Wearing who did it. Toni Dilieto played a beautiful defence-splitting balll into Tony, who rounded the 'keeper to coolly slot into the enmpty net. After that the 'Dal sat back a little and took the foot of the gas. This could have been punished by the now more attacking visitors, but the scoreline remained the same until half-time. Billy Finn replaced Zico Baines at left full and immediately slotted comfortably into the position he forfeited in the last match due to suspension. After only 10 minutes of the second half the gaffer decided to rest Orjan up front a little and brought in Jimmy 'Elbows' Murphy to try spark up the game. This had immediate effect as Murph himself finished of some scrappy defensive work to make it 2-0. That was pretty much game over and Elisedal created chance after chance to make an amazing statistic of 31 attempts on goal and 15 on target at the end of a game they would never lose. The visitors pushed 4 men up front late on to try pull it back but the 'Dal stood firm to take all 3 points.

Sunday 27th April 2003 - Elisedal 0 Hakoah 3

A case of the scoreline by far not reflecting the state of play for this game. How the scoreboard read 0-0 at half-time is difficult to comprehend. From the offset, the 'Dal carried the game to their visitors. Chance after chance ensued but the killer touch was just not there. After only 20 minutes of the game, a forced substitution saw Martin Thompson come in for the somewhat 'ill' Terry Baines. This saw Toni Dilieto push to left full and Martin into midfield.Thommo immediately got into the swing of things and formed quite a partnership with Stefan and Andreas in the midfield. The 4-3-3 attacking formation seemed to be having the desired effect but somehow there was no goal forthcoming. Andreas came off injured at half-time and was replaced by Mikael Sorensson. This enforced change saw Toni go back into the midfield and again he slotted in without any problems. Shortly after the break, Jimmy replaced Conny and was causing the defence all sorts of problems with his huge presence. However, chance after chance was spurned and it was to prove crucial as Hakoah stole the lead 20 minutes into the second half. Some slack play in the left full position lead to the ball finding an unmarked forward on the edge of the box and the shot evaded Graham in the Elisedal goal. Micke could not continue after receiving a dead leg and was replaced by Andy. It was all hands on deck as the home side pushed for the equaliser, which inevitably left gaps at the back. Hakoah exploited this and got 2 somewhat easy goals, the second of which somehow got through the arms of the despairing goalkeeper. Our cause was not helped by the disgraceful playacting from the visiters and the 'Dal could have seen both Jimmy and Martin getting their marching orders, but the referee was lenient in both cases. Overall, a very promising performance despite some slack defensive work.

Thursday 17th April 2003 - Elisedal 2 Backa 3

Dissapointing result for Elisedal as Backa twice came from behind to steal all 3 points in a bruising encounter. Following a frenetic first 15 minutes where Backa showed quite a lot of class and Elisedal struggling to come to terms with it, it was the home side who took the lead. Pete and Orjan both chased what looked like a hopeless cause and even though it looked like Orjan may have impeded the goalkeeper, there was no whistle from the referee and Pete had the simple task of slotting into the empty net. After that is was backs to the wall and Backa pulled themselves level before the break with the first of 3 scrappy goals. Following a defensive mixup, the ball ended up in the back of the net, seemingly deflected off an Elisedal defender. After the break, Elisedal looked a little livelier, pushing forward some more. This was rewarded with their second of the afternoon. A hopeful ball forward was missed by substitute Jimmy Murphy and this somehow put off the Backa defence and Orjan ran on to the loose ball and coolly rounded the 'keeper to make it 2-1. After that, Elisedal were again found guilty of sitting back and allowing the visitors to surge forward. Shortly after, the referee awarded a very dubious free-kick against Lenny. The resultant cross was not dealt with properly and the Backa frontman stole in at the back post to make it 2-2. This gave them the momentum they needed and within a few minutes, Elisedal found themselves 3-2 down. Again, a corner was not dealt with effeciently and following another scramble around the 6 yard line, Azad found himself picking the ball from the net for the third time. Late on, tempers flared a little and Billy found himself receiving 2 yellow cards in 2 crazy minutes for our first and hopefully last sending off of the season.

Wednesday 09th April 2003 - Campione 2 Elisedal 5

A wonderful start to the 2003 season for the lads. Shortly after going 2-0 up with goals from Stefan and Orjan, we somehow let 10-man Campione drag themselves back into the game with a quick brace, the first of which came courteousy of a penalty. However, following the floodlight failure mid-way through the second half, super-sub Jimmy Murphy flew up the left wing and crossed for Pete Mayoh to side foot into the empty net. Shortly after, Campione were reduced to 9 men under strange circumstances. One of their defenders handled in the box to give Elisedal a penalty but he was not punished himself. Instead, it was their influencial midfielder who received his second yellow card, presumably for arguing with the referee. Pete stepped up to coolly slot the penalty to the right of the 'keeper. That man Murphy completed proceedings with a clinical finish to round off a superb second half performance. This result leaves us sitting on top of the league!
